Mark your calendars!  October 20th, 2012 is the official release date for CORPUS CHRISTI OMNIBUS VOLUME 1, PART 1!  There will be a book signing with creator Trent Westbrook at COLLECTOR'S PLANET of Corpus Christi, Texas that same day, located at 5929 McCardle in Gulf Way Shopping Center.  More info coming as we get closer to the date!  Stay tuned!

The original Detective Wayne Gunn

This is the original Detective Wayne Gunn!  Dr. Drewey Wayne Gunn, Professor Emeritus of Texas A&M - Kingsville was one of creator Trent Westbrook's professors and a major inspiration for his writing.  The character of Detective Gunn was named after the professor as a tribute for the inspiration and support Westbrook received.  Dr. Gunn recently wrote an introduction for the upcoming CORPUS CHRISTI OMNIBUS first volume, due October 2012!

The next issue of CORPUS CHRISTI (The Comic Book) is due in stores and for sale online in late October of 2012!  Possibly as early as 10/20 but certainly by October 31st!  The story continues immediately where issue 3 left off, so don't miss it!  Issue #4 will have several different variant covers, including an original painted piece by artist Al Molina, and 2 color covers by Trent Westbrook and colorist Joseph Mitchell!

NEWS UPDATE...and looking back at the last two months!

The last two months have been a blur with many milestones for the CORPUS CHRISTI comic book!  

First, 2023 Comics released issue #3 of CORPUS CHRISTI with several variant covers, along with the first collector’s edition of issue #1 with the first soundtrack CD!  The collector’s edition was a featured release for National Record Store Day at Disc Go Round records in Corpus Christi, Texas.  This was followed quickly with 2023 Comics participating in Free Comic Book Day at Collector’s Planet and Comics Plus in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 5th, 2012.  Many fans came out to pick up the latest issues and met artist/writer Trent Westbrook and colorist Joseph Mitchell.

Two weeks later, 2023 Comics attended the Dallas Comicon with Trent Westbrook as a featured artist with upcoming writer/collaborator Clegg Smith.  The CORPUS CHRISTI book did amazingly well in Dallas with over 90 books sold!  

On June 2^nd, a major milestone for the title was met, with over 1,000 copies of the CORPUS CHRISTI comic sold!  Over half sold were the first issue through 3 printings and the collector’s edition!

Trent Westbrook and Joseph Mitchell then headed for San Antonio, Texas for the Texas Comicon a month later, where 2023 Comics had an exclusive cover set for the first 3 issues of CORPUS CHRISTI, with over 100 books sold that weekend!

Three different articles appeared in various publications between May and June of 2012 in regards to the comic book!  An article in the Caller Times for Free Comic Book Day and a double page feature article in STEAM Entertainment Magazine were printed for the month of May, and an official recognition of the comic book and artist/writer Trent Westbrook by Texas A&M University – Kingsville took place in June.  Trent Westbrook is an alumni of the university and was featured in an article by the Javelina Alumni Association.

So what is next for 2023 Comics?

Issue #4 is currently being written and drawn by Trent Westbrook with a September 2012 release date.

Issue #1 is going into a 4^th printing for a Fall/October release!  The book keeps selling and we thank you to all who have supported it!

T-shirts!  They were first introduced at the Texas Comicon and became a big hit!  2023 Comics has teamed up with Brag It On Promotions of Austin, Texas to produce and sell t-shirts and package deals online!  We will have information very soon on where these can be purchased online!

2023 Comics is also working on an online store front to purchase our comics for those looking for specific issues and internet exclusive items.  Stay tuned for more info!

A new one-shot comic is being worked on by Trent Westbrook with Corbin Douglas (writer of the first 2 issues of CORPUS CHRISTI) entitled WITHIN.  The plan at this time is for an October release, and this will be a full color comic. 

Trent Westbrook will be attending a special Free Comic Book Day event as a featured guest at Comics Plus in Corpus Christi, Texas, from 4-6pm on October 31st.  The first 20 to attend will be able to pick out a one-of-a-kind hand drawn sketch card (limited to 20 cards) or choose a free 11x17 lithograph of the art featured on the t-shirt (limited to 10 lithographs).

With the release of issue #3 of CORPUS CHRISTI, plus the new editions of the first two issues of the title, the Dallas Comic Con on 5/19-5/20 and Free Comic Book Day on 5/5/2012, 2023 Comics is going to celebrate the month of May with a special free gift to be distributed through our online mailing list as a "thank you" to the fans.  Everyone who signs up for the mailing list by Thursday, May 24, 2012 will receive this free gift in their email on the evening of Friday, May 25, 2012.  Simply send an email to cc2023comics@live.com, with JOIN in the subject, and the following information:  your full name, your email address, and your hometown.

CORPUS CHRISTI: THE COMIC BOOK HAS A SOUNDTRACK!

A new limited collector’s edition of CORPUS CHRISTI #1, marked as #1CE is being released on April 25^th, 2012!  A pre-release of 10 copies go for sale at DISC GO ROUND of Corpus Christi, Texas, on April 21^st, 2012!  So what is special about this release?

#1CE is a 50 page trade format edition of the original 34 page story, but also contains:

9 reworked/redrawn/improved pages from the original story.

A comparison section of the improved pages vs. the original pages to show the improvement.

6 pages of conceptual art first drawn for the book in 2003 by Trent Westbrook

A short history of the first issue

All books signed by script writer Corbin Douglas and cover colorist Joseph Mitchell

And, the first 40 copies of #1CE will contain a limited soundtrack CD of music created specifically for this release by studio project 2023!  Contains 2 tracks:

1.)  VISION, PART II (04.54)

2.)  VISION COMPLETE (PART I & II) (07:48)  

  

The soundtrack is a concept album meant to accompany the story, both tracks serving as an audio interpretation of the visions and dreams that plague the main character of the story, Barry Christiansen.  This studio release was recorded and produced at both 2023 Studios and Trinity Studios of Corpus Christi, Texas.   Adding the music to the #1CE release was a last minute decision, meant to serve as a free extra for the fans, for both Free Comic Book Day (May 5^th, 2012) and Record Store Day (April 25^th, 2012).  If the music is successful with fans, plans for a continued soundtrack are being considered.

May 4^th is now just a month away, our scheduled release date for not just issue #3 of CORPUS CHRISTI, but according to the title's printer possibly some other books and variants as well.

Issue #3 release date - May 4th, 2012!

Issue #3 now has an official release date of Friday, May 4th, 2012, the day before the world wide Free Comic Book Day event!  Appropriately chronicling the third chapter of the story entitled "Unrest", the comic picks up almost immediately where readers were left on in issue #2.  There will be multiple covers for the third issue, but most variants will be in smaller numbers.  The primary black and white cover will have a large print run for all retailers that should be available to all.  Most variants for this run however will be sold only locally, with a few being held back for the upcoming comicon season, with numbers between 5-30 copies only per cover depending on the cover.  Those numbers will be revealed as we get closer to the release date on May 4th.  2023 Comics currently is considering a special internet cover only to be sold online.  All details will be posted here at our blogsite as they become available.  As of today in the city of Corpus Christi, readers should start seeing the promo posters up in the local shops for issue #3.  If everything works out the way its currently being planned, some big surprises may be on the way for May 4th on top of issue #3.  Stay tuned!

CORPUS CHRISTI #1 goes into 3rd printing late April, 2012.

The first issue of CORPUS CHRISTI will be going into a 3rd printing at the same time as the release of issue #3, late April, 2012.  The Collector's Planet "bike" exclusive cover that was limited to 50 copies has been highly demanded by new readers.  This new version was meant to respond to that request, and at the same time compliment the "red sky" variant cover of issue #2 that so far we've been told was the most popular cover of that issue.

Texas Comicon 2012 Exclusive "Blue Sky" Set

An exclusive set of issues #1 and #2 will be available at the Texas Comicon in San Antonio, Texas, June 22nd - 24th. The "blue sky" set will also be made available online to those who are unable to attend the con in advance by pre-order. More information will be available this March as we get closer to the pressing.

In Store Signing at Texas Toyz, 1/21/2011!

There will be a book signing for the CORPUS CHRISTI comic book on January 21, 2012 at TEXAS TOYZ from 12pm-2pm.  Artist Trent Westbrook will be signing books and art from his body of work, and will provide a hand drawn, one of a kind sketch cover to be given away in a drawing on the day.

Lost cover will find a home with CORPUS CHRISTI #6.

Originally intended to be a 4th cover for the first issue of CORPUS CHRISTI #1 as well as a send off to a city landmark, this piece of art will be used as a future variant cover for CORPUS CHRISTI #6.  The Corpus Christi Ritz Theatre will be a central location used in the storyline for the concluding issue of volume 1 for this series.

SPOTLIGHT ON RUDY VASQUEZ, GUEST COVER ARTIST (PENCILS) FOR CORPUS CHRISTI #2!

Rudy Vasquez is an illustrator in his hometown of El Paso, TX.  He got his start working with DEADBOY Press on their fantasy title, SOMETHING EVIL, followed by work with indie publisher ROGUE WOLF, and APE ENTERTAINMENT. 

Rudy has contributed to INKWORK's Offiicial Family Guy sketch card series and produced covers and pages for indie publisher, PROJECT 4.  He has also enjoyed success in the indie market with publisher's like, DAYSTAR Studios, FAITHSTAR, and the DABEL Bros.

His most recent work can be seen with Digital Publisher CARNIVAL Comics on The FUNHOUSE of HORRORS, and presently is working with Texas publisher N.A.S. Studios on the zombie book NEKROS and a Novel Adaptation once again with DAYSTAR Studios on a book titled THE CONDEMNED. 

Rudy has also dabbled in the fine art market, winning WHAT'S UP! Magazine's title of BEST of the BEST ARTIST in El PASO for 2010.
