Collector's Planet 5 Year Anniversary Oct 22nd!

Collector's Planet in Corpus Christi, Texas is celebrating 5 years of being in business this Saturday, October 22nd at 3517 S. Staples!  To celebrate, they are giving 50% off on all back issue comic books, graphic novels, sports cards, t-shirts, and action figures! 

Comic writer and Corpus Christi native, Joshua Dysart, known for his work on BPRD (Hellboy) for Dark Horse Comics and Swamp Thing for DC Comics, is the big guest of the event and will be signing books for fans from noon to 4pm! 

CORPUS CHRISTI comic book illustrator, Trent Westbrook, will also be attending and signing first print copies of CORPUS CHRISTI #1 from noon to 4pm as well. 

Collector's Planet will also have 4 (possibly 5) one of a kind sketch covers for CORPUS CHRISTI #1 as give aways every hour, drawn by Trent Westbrook.  Two of the covers have art that was scanned and will be used in future issues, including a variant cover for issue #2 in late December! 

Trent Westbrook will also have original art, prints, posters, sketch books and books for other companies that he has worked on available.  Trent Westbrook would just like to say that he is humbled and honored to be alongside the great Joshua Dysart and to be a guest of Collector's Planet!  (Thanks, David!)

2nd print on sale today! + SKETCH COVERS!

The second printing of CORPUS CHRISTI #1 has gone on sale today!  It can be found at Texas Toyz and Comics Plus!  The second printing contains original pencil and inks cover pinups in the back, along with an interview with the creators.

In other news, there is an original, one-of-a-kind copy of CORPUS CHRISTI #1 out there!  A sketch cover by illustrator Trent Westbrook.

2nd print goes on sale October 4th!

It's official!  The first printing of CORPUS CHRISTI #1 has ran its course and a second printing officially goes on sale October 4, 2011! 

The first printing ran 300 copies, something we never saw coming!  We personally would like to thank David De La Cruz of Collector's Planet, Robert Perez, Jr. of South Texas Underground Films, and the fine folks at Comics Plus and Texas Toyz.  Special thanks to ALL who purchased a copy and took this book and company farther and faster than we had ever hoped.

CORPUS CHRISTI #1 COVER A GOES TO 2ND PRINT! COVER C NOW AVAILABLE!

The first printing of CORPUS CHRISTI #1 (cover A) is about to run it's course and a 2nd printing is on its way!  The second printing will be labeled as such inside the front cover, includes a recent interview with Corbin Douglas and Trent Westbrook in the back, and has a couple of corrections made to page 15 as the original had a couple of errors.  These revisions are reflected in variant cover C, along with the interview.



Variant cover C has just hit the stands in comics stores in Corpus Christi, Texas!  This book is extremely limited, only 50 copies to ever see print, and is signed by Corbin Douglas (writer), Trent Westbrook (illustrator) and Joseph Mitchell (cover colorist). 

The books are bagged and numbered with all information on the back for those who may not want to open the book.

CORPUS CHRISTI #1 (variant cover C) arrives!

Very exciting today - variant cover C for CORPUS CHRISTI #1 finally has arrived!  Colorist Joseph Mitchell did a great job coloring the cover on this one!  As soon as we have these signed, numbered, and delivered to the stores, we will post that information here and on Facebook!  If you want one of these, be sure to get them when you see one.  Only 50 copies of this variant will EVER be printed!

CORPUS CHRISTI #1 shipping update!

We just received word this morning that more copies for CORPUS CHRISTI #1 will be shipping this week for local outlets, starting today!  Included with this shipment will be covers A, B, and finally cover C!  For more information on the different covers and versions of issue #1, click here.  Orders for Collector's Planet and Comics Plus are expected to be included in this shipment.  We are awaiting more news on the shipment for Texas Toyz.  Once we have been given a more specific date of arrival for stores, that information will be posted here.  We appreciate everyone who has been holding out to get a copy of this book!

Adam Webb, co-creator of THE REPORTER.

Adam Webb is one of 2023’s creators, artists, and a visual conceptualist for the upcoming title, THE REPORTER, a future title to be published under the 2023 Comics banner.   A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, he currently is an instructor at University of Texas – El Paso, where he teaches reading, writing and research strategies.  Adam Webb co-created the world of THE REPORTER with fellow teacher Steve Phillips, and completely drew out the first three issues of the title which will be used as a “road map” for illustrator Trent Westbrook to draw from.  He has worked on several web-comics and conceptual ideas for children’s books that he has both written and illustrated.  A portfolio of past work by Adam can be found at Deviant Art!

2023's illustrator, Trent Westbrook, contributed 8 pages of art to LANCELOT, a book of poetry by Guy-Francois Evrard and Alex Ness.  Here's a sample of a page of Trent's art from the book.

REALMS CON!!

Illustrator Trent Westbrook will be representing 2023 Comics at Realms Con this year!  Special thanks goes out to Robert Perez Jr of South Texas Underground Films and Daniel Velasquez, convention organizer for Realms Con!  Comixpress.com has promised us an order of copies for CORPUS CHRISTI #1 for this convention, but at a slightly higher price point.  These books will be numbered and signed by writer Corbin Douglas and illustrator Trent Westbrook, with a little extra something thrown in to make it special for Realms Con!  Trent Westbrook will also have sketch books available as well as original pieces of art.



Upcoming Store Orders Information for September.

We are currently waiting on our next individual orders to be delivered from Comixpress.com for Collector's Planet, Comics Plus, and Texas Toyz.  We have been notified that some of the books have hit the printing press this week and we are anxiously awaiting a shipping notice so that we can announce a firm date of arrival for the stores.  Due to the problems regarding Hurricane Irene and its impact on Comixpress, dates have been delayed so far this month for the past couple of weeks, but we are confident books will be shipping soon.  We'd like to thank everyone anxious to get a copy of this book for their patience.

Here is the primary cover for CORPUS CHRISTI #2 to be released. 

Multiple variants will be released as well.  CORPUS CHRISTI #2 is scheduled for a November/December release date.  More information will be posted here and on Facebook as soon as it is available.

CORPUS CHRISTI #1 variant covers information

There are currently 3 different covers in print for the comic book CORPUS CHRISTI, a primary edition and two variant covers.

Primary edition, cover A, sold at all specialty comic shops as well as online at Comixpress.com.

Variant cover B, sold exclusively at Collector's Planet in Corpus Christi, Texas, and limited to 50 copies.  Signed and numbered by writer Corbin Douglas and illustrator Trent Westbrook.

Variant cover C, limited to 50 copies, and sold through Collector's Planet, Comics Plus, Texas Toyz, as well as conventions and artist appearances.  Signed and numbered by writer Corbin Douglas, illustrator Trent Westbrook, and colorist Joseph Mitchell.

Variant cover D is pending for a Winter 2011 release date, only to be sold at the Ritz Theatre of Corpus Christi, Texas.  A limited number to be determined will be printed, with a $1 donation from each book going towards the restoration of the Ritz Theatre through Corpus Christi PATCH, a non-profit organization.  More information will be released here and on Facebook once it is available.

2023 printer COMIXPRESS hit by Hurricane Irene.

COMIXPRESS, the current printer for 2023 Comics and the title CORPUS CHRISTI, received damage from Hurricane Irene as it skirted across Bergen County New Jersey.  Minor structural damages and continuous power outages have put a damper on the press and book orders are coming out slower than usual for the printer, and has had an impact on the current orders for the CORPUS CHRISTI title.  A press release can be found here.

If you are interested in local talent and local independent comic books, 2023 Comics is not the only banner with a cache of artists.  We'd personally like to recommend writer FABIAN RANGEL, JR.!  Known best for his title EXTINCT (link), Fabian has several other books under his helm with two new titles due this Fall!  Preorders for his title FALL (pre-order link) are up for a release this November.  And be sure to swing by Texas Toyz in Corpus Christi on October 1st for the release and book signing of REVENGE ROOSTER!  A recent interview with the young writer is featured here. Welcome to 2023 Comics!

Welcome to our current hub of information on the web, our official blog for everything 2023 COMICS!  We are a group of artists and writers, working together on multiple projects in Corpus Christi, Texas, with our primary focus on comic books.  The primary goal in our work is to bring cultural focus to the South Texas area through the medium of comics.  This includes stories that focus on the area as well as artists that reside here.  2023 Comics IS:  Trent Westbrook (writer, primary illustrator), Corbin Douglas (writer), Joseph Mitchell (colorist, photographer), Steve Phillips (writer),  and Adam Webb (writer, illustrator and visual consultant).  The flagship title for the group is CORPUS CHRISTI, a comic book by Corbin Douglas and Trent Westbrook, officially released August 31st, 2011.  The title sold out in its first week at all local area specialty comic shops and made the TOP 40 THINGS TO DO IN CORPUS CHRISTI list the same week!  Three other titles are in the works:  THE REPORTER by Steve Phillips and Adam Webb, with Trent Westbrook as illustrator; THE ONI with guest writers Alex Ness and Jason Waltz, and Trent Westbrook as illustrator; and DEVIL BUNNEEZ, INC. due in 2012.  Stay tuned to this blog for ALL INFORMATION regarding our current and future titles!  Thanks for reading!
